About Etiquette

Etiquette Food & Travel is an Etiquette Training program. We offer etiquette courses for those who want to improve their professional and social interactions, and for those who want to make others feel comfortable in their company.

Polished and Powerful

The manner in which we carry ourselves speaks to who we are. Whether at an upscale dinner, cocktail party, important event, the board room, or any other occasion. Etiquette provides the tools in order to behave and present oneself in an elegant, sophisticated,  confident manner, as well as to navigate professional and social situations with ease.

History and Origin of Etiquette

An advocate for good manners, Giovanni Della Casa (1503 to 1556) authored the first book ever published on etiquette. Titled Galateo, this book also served as a renaissance treatise, which influenced all of Europe. Della Casa was an Italian poet, writer on etiquette and society, diplomat, archbishop, legal scholar, inquisitor, and multilinguist. As it was customary during that period, the title, Galateo, is the first name in Latin of Della Casa’s friend and teacher, Galeazo Florimonte.

And just as pleasant and kind manners have the power to arouse the benevolence of those with whom we live, so, conversely, the uncouth and rude incite others to hatred and contempt for us.

From Giovanni Della Casa, the above text is the translation from the original book, written in ancient Italian language also knows as “sermone vulgaris”. In the original version it was:

E come i piacevoli modi e gentili hanno forza di eccitare la benivolenza di coloro co’ quali noi viviamo, così per lo contrario i zotichi e rozzi incitano altrui ad odio et a disprezzo di noi.
